Solo tutorials help you transition to painting without video demos. Please note that while this playful little pooch is aimed at advanced levels, its components – nose, tongue, and whiskers (we have created video tutorials for each) – are suitable for beginner or intermediate levels. Eyes are more challenging, at least intermediate. It is worth remembering that if you divide the painting into small sections, each one will not be so difficult. Putting everything together adds complexity and makes the task feel more intimidating. Please allow enough time for this picture. It took me 1.5 days, but I’m a speedy painter! My dog was 41.5 cm (16.3 inches) tall and 28.6 cm (11.2 inches) wide. This way you can capture a lot of details, including all the important eyes! To impress the eyes, draw as accurately as possible so that you can identify where the highlights are. Our tawny owl tutorial will give you the skills to tackle this. I used a bit of burnt sienna and permanent sap green to add some color to the visible areas of the iris. For most of the black fur, I used Ramp Black, which is easier and faster than mixing black, but to create the gray and black colors you want, a combination of Payne’s Gray and Burnt Sienna also works well . When I want a darker, richer black in the darkest toned areas, I look to combine Payne’s Gray, Burnt Sienna, and a touch of permanent carmine to create the richest black. I recommend following the whiskers tutorial and using a fine liner masking fluid on the whiskers. I painted this full version after filming the whiskers tutorial, but I used it because I couldn’t place the masking fluid lid properly. I realized I couldn’t do it! oops! And we were in Covid lockdown so the store was closed! However, I’ve had decent results using white paint, but I recommend using Fineliner Masking Fluid here.
