What is a peony?

牡丹とは?

牡丹は、もともと中国から来て、長い間日本に来て、観賞用に庭に植えられています。
高さ0.6〜1.8メートル。葉は二重羽状の化合物であり、有茎です。各リーフレットは楕円形または槍形で、2つまたは3つに分かれています。
春になると、木のてっぺんに直径約20cmの大きな二重花びらの花が咲きます。花は赤、マゼンタ、黒紫、桃、白などで、色々な変化があります。
根皮は、頭痛、関節炎、リウマチ、婦人科疾患の薬として調合されています。

Originally from China, it came to Japan for a long time and is planted in the garden for ornamental purposes.
Height 0.6 to 1.8 meters. The leaves are double-pinnate compound and pedunculated. Each leaflet is oval or lanceolate and splits into two or three.
In spring, a large double-petaled flower with a diameter of about 20 cm is attached to the treetop. The flowers are red, magenta, black purple, peach, white, etc., and there are many changes.
The root bark is decoctioned as a medicine for headache, arthritis, rheumatism, and gynecological diseases.
Chinese name, peony. Hatsugusa. Fukamigusa. Natorigusa. Yamatachibana. Boutan. Boutangusa.
